Using the technical term of "destroying the shite outta me prints"

Right so I finally started screen printing!

To begin with I worked with "zee eye" and printed this up using a rusty orange background colour and the eye itself being a brown colour.  I printed quite a few editions of this image as it is fast and easy to produce a  substantial amount in a short time.  Then i got about to destroying the shite out of them which was great craic i'll admit.

The prints were ripped, crumpled, walked on, slashed, set fire to, you name it i did it.  Note to self though - probably not the smartest idea to set fire to one of the prints in my bedroom....sensitive Grove Island smoke alarm alert...and the smell lingers...for a REALLY  long time!!

Once destroyed, i went about repairing them and putting them back together.  Sewing was the method which i thought looked most effective so I used it quite a lot. Totes now a pro at it!

On one I did write a date which is significant to me.  The original plan was to write a date on all the prints and this would make almost a story of sorts.  I may revisit this idea yet.

Next step was to change my image.  I decided to represent emotional scars, ones which arent visible.  So for this, I used a picture of me and my BFF Marion.  Using Photoshop (which i cant use so mega proud that i managed to dp this!) I cut us away from the background and then proceeded to cut out our faces to give the image a universal feeling, that these two people could be anyone.

Using a brown ink again, i printed many copies and then, like the eye, i destroyed them.

So on from this, I've been trying to decide how i'm going to display my prints.  I kinda had the brain wave to make a toy chest of sorts as many people's scars that i used in this project were gotten when they were young.  With the toy chest i'll either fill it with the prints or cover it with the prints, but i've yet to decide on whether the prints will look better just purely on a wall.

Started a new project today.  Moving on to woodblocks which are really easy and simple.  The brief for this one was to take an event, story or experience from our own lives and represent it in pictures with no words basically.  I've decided to base mine on the torture myself and my brother would inflict on each other when we were younger.  I've cut his hand open with a scissors, pushed him out of trees, fractured his elbow etc. while he has done things like hit me in the face with a hurley...ok i'll admit i tortured him more!

Currently drawing some thumbnail sketches to decide on images and hopefully will start printing ASAP :)
